Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for treating depression, anxiety (including worrying, panic attacks, and phobias), OCD, post traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety and health anxiety. CBT helps us to understand the connection between our thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
By understanding the impact of our thoughts and behaviours on our feelings, CBT empowers us to develop new perspectives and coping strategies to help improve how we feel, both physically and emotionally.
CBT includes many different practical techniques. Within your therapy sessions, you and your therapist will discuss your goals for therapy and create a personalised formulation together to help you understand the impact of past experiences and how your thoughts and behaviours impact how you feel. Together, we will use your personalised formulation in therapy to provide you with coping strategies that are personalised to you.
Appointments will be via video call or telephone call. Appointments usually last between 50-60 minutes but sometimes longer or shorter sessions are agreed based on the presenting difficulties.
